Connect to Request Logistics Pipe with modem?

Can you connect to a Request Logistics Pipe with a modem? I tried this but the modem will not attach to the pipe. Is there some other, similar way to connect a computer to a remote Request Logistics Pipe?

Openperipherals has a peripheral proxy for this kind of thing, or CCTweaks full block modem.
What's happening is that modems can't attach to non-full blocks, which the pipe is.

Another solution, which I haven't tried, might be to place a BuildCraft facade on the side of the logistics pipe and place the modem on that.
