Is there a disk there? It won't label a drive, only a disk.
If there is, then try ls 'ing the directories from the root. Maybe it isn't seeing the disk.
If there is a disk in it, try putting the disk and drive on another side. After this, there's a problem with your install, probably.
EDIT: Stupid question, but must be asked because you gave no details: Are you putting this in code? Or straight from the shell?

Ahh, you're probably editing a program then writing this inside it?
If you are, you can't do that.
Just exit the edit and type it in normal terminal.
