Don't be so impatient… its only been 7 minutes… I was typing something up, but I'm a no longer inspired now so all I'm going to tell you to do is read through the PIL on the Lua website
http://www.lua.org/pil/1.html

EDIT: Some people have to wait hours… be happy that you only had to wait 10 for a response…

Harsh… But probably for the better. Nobody learns when they get information spoon-fed to them. It sticks for all of ten seconds and then they forget everything. If you want to really learn something well, go find it yourself. Google can literally get you the answer to just about any question you can think to ask, so please - if you are thinking about asking something… GOOGLE IT FIRST! That way people won't be annoyed when you ask something that's sitting there on the front page of Google for everybody to read.

Harsh… -snip-
I know but I'm getting sick of the demanding people, that expect the world, in less than the appropriate time… Its ok to ask, but don't expect an answer in such a short period of time, like I said some people have to wait hours… I helped someone the other day that had posted the topic like 14 hours earlier and had no response!

Well, to be fair there are some questions that can be answered in minutes by almost anyone, and others that require a bit of expertise and patience to get. I sometimes "pass by on the other side" when I see something I know is going to take some effort.

As for "What are the basics of Lua", the link to PIL is the most appropriate answer.
